Mid April, 2010. Update - Hope has now completed her recovery. She has been spayed and has had five teeth removed. She is perfect now and as lovable as ever, as is Bruiser.
Both are now at a healthy weight, and they are finally ready for their forever home!
Early April, 2010. Update - Hope is now free of heartworm and will be spayed soon. Bruiser is doing great - he is totally dewormed and has been neutered. Bruiser has gained 20 lbs. And Hope has gained 14 lbs. Despite their bad start in life, they are great family pets and love children and other animals.
February, 2010. Update - Both dogs are adjusting well to their foster home. Bruiser has been neutered and Hope is almost ready to start heartworm treatment. And while it will be awhile before they're ready for adoption, they're now listed on our Adoptables Page. Way to go Bruiser and Hope!!
January, 2010. Meet Bruiser (left) and Hope, two poor starving bassets who were kept out in the cold and practically froze to death.
We have them now so they are warm and eating four small meals a day. Hope is heartworm positive, but she is so emaciated that we can't treat the heartworm until she is a lot healthier.
We suspect that Bruiser is Hope's son and that he has never lived indoors. He's around two and probably has never had his nails trimmed since birth!
These two smelled SO bad that the first order of business was to give them a bath. Now they'll need a lot of medical help and TLC to be nursed back to health.
